Pharmacy students’ views on the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE): findings from two Malaysian universities

Objectives: To investigate and compare the views of undergraduate pharmacy students in two Malaysian schools (one private one public) regarding organisation, quality, objectivity Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken among penultimate final year between October to December 2019 (International Islamic University Malaysia [IIUM] Cyberjaya [UoC]). questionnaire developed, tested, validated then distributed participants through online Google forms. Results: total 221 participated study. Students from public university disagreed with allocated time for OSCE stations (IIUM 63.9% 48.7% vs UoC 11.6% 14.3%). Relatively few agreed that is a less stressful type assessment compared other traditional methods 7.2% 10.3% 39.5% 23.8%). Both groups students’ also marks were likely be affected by student’s gender 73.2% 66.7% 67.4% 78.6%). Conclusion: The majority had positive on OSCE, several differences universities. There are areas further considered ensure more experience such as revision allocation every station provision timely constructive feedback.
